BELONGING(s) is a brand new promenade performance by Tilted Productions. It will be shown for the first time in the UK, and only in Ipswich this summer, before touring nationally and internationally in 2016. The four preview performances around the Ipswich Waterfront are spread over two dates: Saturday 20 June at 3pm and 6pm and Thursday 2 July at 3pm and 6pm. Tickets are free and can be booked through DanceEast (01473 295230).
BELONGING(s) combines contemporary dance, physical theatre and an unusual use of objects. The show has been created by renowned director and choreographer, Maresa von Stockert, in collaboration with an outstanding cast of 7 performers, ranging in age from under 25 to over 60.
BELONGING(s) is set in three different waterfront locations in and around Ipswich, encouraging the viewer to see the familiar in new ways, with local spaces being turned into illusionary worlds. It is a promenade performance, meaning the audiences will walk from one location to the next, led by the performers. Along the way, spectators will come across additional pop up performances involving members of the local community.
Local people of all ages (18+) are invited to try out for a part in the show. No performance experience and physical/ theatrical skills are necessary, all that’s needed is an open mind and a curiosity to play outside in local surroundings and with everyday objects. Successful candidates will work side by side with the award winning director and cast of professional dancers. Those interested are invited to learn more at a drop in session at the Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich on Saturday 16 May between 1-3pm. A workshop audition will take place at Jerwood DanceHouse on Saturday 30 May from 1-5pm. Those selected will need to commit to three afternoon rehearsals on 13 June, 19 June and 1 July as well as the performance days.
BELONGING(s) has been supported by Arts Council England, Ipswich Borough Council and leading European arts organisations.
Running time is approximately 75 minutes. Age suitability: All
